Glasses cord thingy

My Mum and Dad popped over to visit, and during their trip Mum expressed a need for a glasses cord, necklace, lanyard thingy.

I have tried to crochet garments, but I definitely prefer smaller projects. My latest discovery are glasses lanyards/cords, super simple and they can be done in an evening or so. I have bought a packet of the grippy ends so I can rustle some up for the next church Christmas Fair.

Here is the prototype I made with elastic band ends which my Mum now owns with upgraded grippy ends. I followed this pattern. I'd like to try this one next.
